Preparing your fleeces
Preparing your fleeces is essential to guaranteeing the quality of your product, as well as the timeliness of its completion. We often tell our customers that the quality of their incoming fleeces determines to a large extent the quality of their product. As pricing is quoted on the incoming weight, we strongly recommend that all portions of the fleeces that are excessively dirty or poor in quality be separated out and not sent in for processing. Such portions will only decrease the overall quality of the product and add to the price.
Skirting
You will want to dedicate a significant amount of time to skirting your fleeces. This process includes the removal of vegetable matter, bugs, excrement, and any large debris. We will remove the very small debris and dust in the tumbling and washing process. If fleeces are poorly skirted, the finish product will contain much of the particles originally present. If a fleece is too dirty, it will be rejected.
Sorting
The blanket (or 1st cuts) of the animal is the best for processing. And the 2nd cuts are often fine, but we never recommend the processing of 3rd cuts. It is easiest to sort out the less desirable fiber when shearing your animals, but it can certainly be done afterwards.
Planning
We have provided an order form download above to assist you in planning how you want your fiber processed, but feel free to reach out to us if you could use advice on product selection. We always encourage our customers to combine fleeces into one batch, because we are able to produce higher yield in the product of larger batches. To expedite the quoting process, please package each fleece that you want combined into one bag or box with one order form included within.
Don't Stess!
We are perfectly willing to help you out every step of the way, and we will not start on the order until you are happy with the plan and have approved the quote.
